Nice to meet you...

I live in Derbyshire with my partner Mark and our dog Teddy. I love reading, gaming, dogs, fajitas and Taylor Swift!

I am passionate about YOU. I have no hidden agendas. I want to support you to make informed decisions surrounding your maternity care and birth in a way that empowers you. I am able to do this whether you choose to birth your baby at home or in the hospital.

I work flexibly to meet your needs and lifestyle. Appointments can be arranged any time, including evenings and weekends. Appointments are much longer and more personalised than what you will find in the NHS, usually lasting between 1-2 hours.

I am an experienced Midwife within a supportive company and I am so excited to embark on your pregnancy journey with you.

Where do i cover?

📍 Location

Typically, I can travel around 60 minutes to visit you for your appointments. If you are expecting your first baby, I may be flexible to travelling slightly further. I live very close to the A38 and M1 which means I cover a wide area of the Midlands and the North of England.
Please send me an email with your location and I can confirm if I am able to accommodate you. 💜

Areas I cover:

  • Derby & Derbyshire

  • Chesterfield, Sheffield & Yorkshire

  • Nottingham & Nottinghamshire

Frequently asked questions

FAQs

Looking at alternatives to NHS care can be confusing to start with. No question is ever too silly.

Do I have to have NHS care if I have a Private Midwife?

As a Private Midwife I practice completely separate to the NHS. I am able to offer all appointments and blood tests privately at home. I can arrange your scans privately as well.

However, if any complications arise or a consultant is indicated, we may encourage you to use the NHS.

Some women may choose to decline NHS consultant appointments and as your Midwife we will have fully informed and individualised discussions to ensure you’re making decisions that are best for you.

Some women still access NHS midwives alongside their private appointments with myself, which is perfectly okay 😊

Can I spread the cost of my care?

Yes. Private Midwives offer three payment plans:

  1. Pay in full.

  2. Spread the cost interest free from booking until the month baby is due.

  3. Payinterest free over 12 months for packages over ÂŁ5000

Can I have a homebirth if I have a medical condition?

Please talk to me about your specific circumstances. I would be pleased to share our clinical guidelines with you. I will aim to support all your birth choices if I can. Normally, you can still book a home birth with me if you have a medical condition or you have other health related concerns. I can talk to you about possible plans and options for you.

What happens if my pregnancy is prolonged?

Technically, you are not “over-due” until after 42 weeks of pregnancy. At about 41 weeks I will talk to you about options and choices. I will give you information to make your own choices. I will not pressurise you to do anything you are uncomfortable with. I will still continue your antenatal care until your baby arrives, there is no additional charge.

What if my baby comes early?

I will be on call for you from 37 weeks of pregnancy. If labour starts before this I may still be able to accompany to hospital but this cannot be guaranteed. If I am not available, Private Midwives will try to identify another. Please refer to our refund schedule as this goes through all possible scenarios for you.

What if I have a miscarriage?

We are mindful that this is a sad time for you and we will do all we can to communicate with you in a sensitive way. Please see our refund shedule which is in the resource library of our website. This goes through all the different scenarios and explains how much refund you are entitled to.

Registered Midwife & Professional Midwifery Advocate

Hello, I’m Amie!

After spending time working in the world of fertility, I qualified as a Midwife and have since worked in all areas of maternity care in the NHS, from the hospital wards to community and even in a continuity of carer team. Throughout my career, I’ve accumulated extensive experience supporting births in diverse settings, including labour wards, midwife-led birth centers, and at home.

I am passionate about individualised care and continuity with families throughout the whole of your pregnancy journey. I believe the relationship you have with me as your midwife should be trusting and special and it’s an honour to be able to go through this exciting, powerful and special time of your life with you. I want to ensure you always feel listened to and empowered during your pregnancy and absolutely love that by working for Private Midwives, I am supported to do just that every day for my clients.

I pride myself on my calmness and my friendly demeanour. I want you to feel comfortable and confident to make informed decisions around your pregnancy and birth and trust that I am informing and supporting you every step of the way.

In addition, I qualified as a Professional Midwifery Advocate in 2022 to further assist both families and fellow midwives. I’ve also undergone specialised training in 3-Step Rewind Birth Trauma therapy.

As an extension of my commitment to sharing knowledge, I manage the Private Midwives TikTok account. So if you’d like to see some videos of me and learn more about Private Midwives, head over to @privatemidwives.

When I am not working, I am a dedicated dog mum to my Golden Retriever Teddy and an avid fantasy book reader.

If you’re considering booking care, please reach out to the head office to arrange a consultation with me. I look forward to embarking on this incredible journey together.

Testimonials

"To Amie, thank you for everything you have done through the time you have cared for me and baby H. You really are the best at what you do."

"I just wanted to say how amazing you was and I honestly owe you my life for being so amazing & supporting me in getting baby delivered safely!"
"Amie, thank you for delivering my rainbow baby. I will forever be grateful for how you kept me focused and calm in a scary situation!"
"Dear Amie, thank you for everything you have done for us through our pregnancies. We couldn't have gotten through them without you"

"Special thank you to Amie my midwife on the night, who l honestly believe saved the life of my little one, with her swift actions and decision making. She remained calm and composed throughout what was a very hectic situation, and stayed with me holding my hand and being an absolute rock until her shift ended. I can't thank you enough for everything you did to take care of us both. We'll be forever grateful. You're such an asset to your profession and my little one wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."

"Dear Amie, a huge thank you for your care of the night we had our baby boy. We really couldn't have done it without you. Your calm kindness was so much appreciated (even with a fainting husband!!)"
"Amie, I just wanted to say thank you for being such a lovely midwife and always being so happy and positive during my appointments, at a time when the prospect of having a baby in a global pandemic was pretty scary! Thank you for also being so supportive of my plans to have a home birth. I feel so lucky to have received such great care from a midwife like you."
"I just wanted to say I still think about how amazing you were when my baby was born"

“We booked with Private Midwives as we wanted a home birth and our local hospital had suspended the home birth service. What we didn’t realise is that we were booking so much more than that. The care we have received antenatally, during birth and postnatally from our midwife, Amie Elliott, has been gold standard. It has been amazing to have continuity of care throughout and have the opportunity to get to know our midwife and share our birth preferences with her.

Due to thick meconium in my waters, I ended up delivering my baby in hospital but having Amie there with us the whole time kept me calm and reassured and without her our birth experience would have been very different. It felt like I had a friend by my side and her knowledge and experience gave me confidence to advocate for myself and make the right choices for me and my baby, which led us to get the positive birth we so wanted.

Amie also managed to capture photos and videos during and after birth that we will treasure forever. She took time to help me with breastfeeding and getting the latch right which has allowed us to continue our feeding journey.

Booking with Private Midwives was the best decision we made during this pregnancy and it was worth every penny. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for great care, midwives who have the time and resources to get to know you, your family and your wishes and are passionate about you getting a positive birth experience. Thanks again and see you in the future for baby number two!”

“I am doing brilliantly thank you - the one thing my friends and family have all commented on is that I have remained extremely calm, chilled and relaxed throughout my pregnancy (my first one) and that is 100% down to Amie and her extremely thorough care.

She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind and thoughtful, has got to know me and my husband very well, is always punctual, and is happy to answer any and all questions that we have had. I feel absolutely at peace and ready to give birth and become a mother with her advice and guidance. On top of that - we just really look forward to our appointments, the convenience of being able to have them after work or weekends in the comfort of our own home has been brilliant. It’s just like having a friend round for a cuppa :)

I had read how important continuity of care is but it wasn’t until I experienced it for myself that I really understood it. I have been “doubling up” with NHS care and have been seen by 6 different midwives so far (not including those who will be at the birth), and have been told slightly different information or had to re-explain sensitive issues each time. I of course understand why this is the case with the NHS, but had I only had that care, I know I would not have been as confident and relaxed through this whole process. Knowing I always have Amie to ask, and so conveniently through phone or Whatsapp, has given me complete peace of mind.

My husband and I really do feel that investing in Private Midwives for our first child (and subsequent ones should we have any!) has been the best money we have ever spent. We have told all our friends and family about how brilliant an experience it’s been.“

“I was very passionate about having a home birth, and due to staffing issues the NHS couldn’t guarantee they would have midwives on call for my birth. So I turned to Private Midwives so that I could have the best chance of having my home birth, and I’m so glad I did! Amie and Beth were superstars - they were very knowledgable and respectful of my and my partner’s wishes throughout, and we felt very supported and confident in their abilities. Over the course of their care we formed a great relationship so I felt super comfortable by the time the labour came. The post natal visits were so good too - Amie and Beth were always available for any questions we had as new parents. I also hired a birthing pool and gas & air through them which was really easy to do. I would highly recommend”

"Amie - Thank you from the bottom of our hearts đŸ©·

I decided to go with Private Midwives for a few reasons, but the most important reason to me was that I wanted to give birth with a midwife who I felt safe with, who felt like a friend, and who I felt cared about me and my wishes wholeheartedly; Amie undoubtedly was that midwife.

Nothing was ever too much to ask of her, and her support, not just whilst I laboured but throughout my pregnancy, was unwaivering - always checking in on me via text, reassuring me when I was anxious about something, and helping me when I had (often silly, though she never made me feel that they were!) questions. And, equally as important in my opinion, she was always down for a good laugh! My husband and I see her as a friend as well as a care giving professional and I can't understate how crucial that was in solidifying the trust I had in Amie to take great care of us.

Thanks to Amie and Sally, I had the natural home birth I'd always dreamed of, and I never felt for one second anything other than completely and utterly safe, supported, and trusting that they had mine and my family's best interests at heart.

That support extended postpartum and my husband and I were beyond grateful for everything Amie and Sally did for us in the following week or so, including the quick resolution of my daughter's tongue tie.

As for Private Midwives, the company was a joy to work with in general - email correspondence was always speedy and super helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble.

Thank you Amie for everything - I just hope we'll get to see you again if/when I'm ever pregnant again!"
